If during your stay in Bulgaria you want to use your rights as a citizen of one of the above countries when receiving medical care, you should only turn to medical institutions for outpatient and inpatient care, to independent medical diagnostic laboratories that have a contract with the National Health Insurance. fund (NHIF) and state or municipal medical institutions), subsidized by the Ministry of Health.
In this way you will not pay social security contributions to the Bulgarian National Health Insurance Fund. For this you only need to present your European Health Insurance Card (exceptionally this right can also be proved by a Certificate for temporary replacement of the EHIC issued by the same institution that issues the health insurance card) and a valid identity document. You must also provide your doctor with copies of both types of documents. Only a user fee is paid, determined for the Bulgarian insured citizens for the following provided medical and dental care:
- Examination and diagnosis;
- Appointment of medication (prescription) – after examination;
- Recovery procedures;
- Research;
- Treatment;
- Preventive activities.
As a foreign patient, you will be given a signature and a declaration (Appendix 2) certifying that you are not residing in Bulgaria for medical treatment.
To avoid all these problems and not to wander in the medical maze, contact us and we will provide you with fast, adequate and quality medical care.
